Chante Moore

Chante Moore

Grammy Nominated R & B and Jazz vocalist Chante Moore has garnered several hit songs such a Chante’s Got A Man, Love’s Taken Over and Straight Up, Old School Lovin and more. She also had a hit with her remake of the R & B Jazz classic Free originally
made famous by Deniece Williams. Her sweet and sensuous vocal style and range is reminiscent of the late Minnie Riperton. In 2000, Moore earned a Soul Train Music Awards nomination alongside Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey for Single of the Year,
Female[1] for her Billboard #2 R & B and #10 Pop hit "Chanté's Got a Man."  In 2002, she won a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Single, Group, Band or Duo for "Contagious" featuring The Isley Brothers. She also appeared on the hit UPN show Girlfriends, singing Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You." Also that year, Moore sang on Kenny G's single "One More Time," which registered on the Smooth Jazz and adult contemporary singles charts. This is her debut performance at our festival this year.



Ray Parker Jr.

Songwriter, producer and recording artist Ray Parker is best known for writing and performing the theme song to the motion picture Ghostbusters, for his solo hits, and performing with his band Raydio, and Barry White. He has recorded and penned numerous hit songs such as Jack and Jill, A woman Needs Love, You Can’t change that, Mr Telephone Man,The Other Woman, and many more. He also had instrumental hits such as After Midnight and Mismaloya Beach.

During his peak in the 70 and 80’s Parker also wrote songs and did session work for The Carpenters, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Deniece Williams, Jean-Luc Ponty, Leon Haywood, Temptations, The Spinners, Boz Scaggs, David
Foster, Rhythm Heritage, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Honey Cone, Herbie Hancock, Tina Turner, and Diana Ross.

His guitar playing and songs are a part of American Music History and in celebration of his stature within the industry he was recently awarded his own Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We are happy and honored to have him return to our festival this year.

As a  singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, with 22 Top Five Hits, 9 Number One Songs and an Album of the Year to his credit . His number one hits songs include On the Run , Change of Heart and Jesus Loves you. Jon Gibson will be one of our featured vocalist at our event this year. Many have compared his songwriting and vocal style to that of the great Stevie Wonder. As a veteran in the  music scene he never disappoints the crowd . He has had his biggest success as a Christian artist and his latest release StoryTeller brings him back full circle in a career that has spanned over 3 decades.

Driven by an explosive mix of jazz, rock, classical , jam band influences and Afro Cuban and world rhythms TIZER, is a multi-cultural band led keyboardist/composer Lao Tizer—Establishing themselves in the contemporary jazz world over the past few years, TIZER has spurred comparisons of a modern twist to the 70s and early 80s heyday of jazz fusion, when trailblazing ensembles like Return To Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report set the aesthetic standard.

Over the past few years, TIZER—a 2011 nominee for “Jazz Group of the Year”--has taken their multi-faceted world fusion vibe around the globe, galvanizing thousands at events including the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, the Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg, the Dubai Jazz Festival, Barbados Jazz Festival, the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival and the Festival International Providencia Jazz in Santiago, Chile. TIZER has a multi-genre, multi-national appeal that expands beyond just jazz enthusiasts.

Guitarist, composer, and arranger Chieli Minucci is longtime leader of the Grammy-nominated jazz-fusion group SPECIAL EFX, a major force on the jazz and world music scene for 30 years. Besides writing and performing his own music, Chieli shares his guitar brilliance throughout the entertainment world. He has recorded and performed with many top artists, such as Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Lopez, Jewel, Mark Anthony, Anastasia, as well as such jazz artists as Jeff Lorber, Marion Meadows, Jay Beckenstein, Gerald Veasley and many others. Although renowned in the jazz and pop world, Chieli is also a gifted television and film composer. He has won 3 Emmy Awards and been nominated 10 times for his eclectic compositional work. His music can also be heard on the soundtracks of the films Bowfinger, Legally Blonde, Panic, No Country For Old Men, and others. Chieli Minucci will release his 30th anniversary CD in 2013.


Karen Briggs
Karen Brigg's electrifying Violin will make you gasp with awe. She has mastered the art of becoming one with her instrument. She is noted for her improvisational style finding itself at home within various styles from jazz and gospel to light classical orchestrations and R & B.  Her forays into various genres of music have been very eclectic, sometimes also personal. She has performed with a number of artists over the years including: Stanley Clarke, En Vogue, Chaka Khan, Patrice Rushen, Hidden Beach’s Unwrapped CD Series, Tizer and Soul II Soul and Jazz in Pink, In 2009 she released a new album, "Soulchestral Groove", featuring her improvised soloing in original compositions by Briggs and cover arrangements of others.

 


 

Paul Brown

Two time Grammy Award winning jazz producer, engineer, and guitarist Paul Brown started off as a sound engineer at the age of 15 has since expanded his career into producing hit jazz albums, such as Boney James' Trust in 1992 , and releasing four of his own albums since his debut release Up Front in 2004. The 2011 Canadian Smooth Jazz "Best Vocalist" Nominee currently has over 40 #1 hits on the Radio & Records' smooth jazz chart, and is considered to be the genre's top producer.

Called the "Baby Face of Smooth Jazz", Brown has had a career spanning over two decades working with well established smooth jazz artists like George Benson, Jeffery Osborne, and Kirk Whahlum.

Brown has also earned the accomplishment of having a #1 Radio & Records chart hit as both an artist and prod ucer in 2006.  His track "Winelinght" from his second album, The City, was named by Mediabase to be the genre's most played track of that year. He followed it up in 2007 with the track "The Rhythm Method" from his third album White Sand, and in 2008 with his production of Jesse J's "Tequila Moon".

Greg has arranged, performed and recorded with countless artists as diverse as his career, including The Eurythmics, Rod Stewart, Lyle Lovett, Heart, Linda Ronstadt, Luther Vandross, Aaron Neville, The Brothers Johnson, Phish, Little Feat, Wilson Pickett, Huey Lewis and the News, Raphael Saadiq, Al Green, Quincy Jones, B.B. King, Everclear, Chicago, Bonnie Raitt, Dionne Warwick, Ray Charles, Peter Frampton, Billy Preston, Terrence Trent Darby, Josh Groban Madonna, The Rolling Stones and Celine Dion. Adams is a founding member of Tower Of Power, legendary for the horn arrangements that made the TOP horn section a sought out entity all its own. Greg strongly believes in music programs at all levels of education.

More than a decade ago, guitarist and vocalist Steve Oliver burst onto the contemporary jazz scene with a sound so fresh, so positive, so bright, that he immediately became a favorite on radio stations with songs like “West End” and “Highway One.” The Weather Channel loved his music so much it put “Right Direction” into heavy rotation during its local weather breaks. Smooth Jazz News magazine named Oliver its Debut Artist of the Year. His ensuing hits “Chips and Salsa” and “High Noon”  have become crowd favorites at his concerts.  Now, after four studio CDs, a Christmas project and a CD that captured his

infectious live-on-stage energyHe plays guitar , scats and sings and is a virtuoso of the synth guitar. Steve Oliver’s Style is unmatched int he smooth jazz world. His Latest Record Global Kiss featured two number one hits. Steve has traveled the world and thrilled audiences with his animated performances and will be returning to this years festival , He has  a new project in the works entitled “The Best so Far”
slated for a summer release.

Michael Paulo

Michael Paulo

Festival Producer and Host Michael Paulo is a multi-talented artist with ten solo records to date. His most recent outing features the talented arranging of Pianist David Benoit along with a 40 piece symphony orchestra. With over 3 decades of experience in the music business Michael is not only a talented saxophonist but also is involved with producing the Pacific Rim Jazz festival, The popular Grooves in The Grove series at La Quinta Resort and Spa and numerous Smooth Jazz concerts in Hawaii from where he hails. It's through his numerous relationships that the festival is able to bring in such world class talent. He is also an artist in residence at The world famous Jakarta Internartional Java Jazz Festival. Michael currently resides in the Temecula Valley.

This Japanese Saxophonist is a highly respected and legendary musician in Japan. He is making his 5th appearance at The festival and has always been a crowd favorite, and travels from Japan to specially appear at the event.

 



Rene Paulo

Hawaii's Piano legend was a child prodigy at the age of 4 . He was the youngest featured soloist ever to perform with the Honolulu Symphony at age 12. After studying at the prestigious Julliard school of music he went on to lead his own band, record several solo records during the last 5 decades and garnering numerous hit records in Hawaii. Enjoying a long and illustrious career Rene has been awarded numerous lifetime achievement awards as a performer. At age 82 he is still going strong and always receives standing ovations at his live performances.

Filipino-American jazz vocalist, composer, arranger, musician, poet & visual artist.
In 2006, he won the London International Jazz Vocal Competition, Europe's version of
The Thelonious Monk International Jazz competition.   The highly-skilled singer's
tremendous knowledge of the many forms of jazz inspired music critic Roger Crane
(Intl Review of Music) to write, "... David can swing you into bad health and then,
turn around and break your heart with a ballad."  Mon has performed at the North Sea
Jazz festival, Filipino-American International Jazz Festival, Jakarta Jazz, The Merc
(Temecula), The Jazz Bakery, Catalina Jazz Bar,Ford Amphitheater,  Yoshi's, and many
other jazz venues and festivals. He has also performed with living legends and the
popular contemporary jazz musicians such as David Benoit, Eric Marienthal, Tina May,
Lee Gibson, Bobby Enriquez, Boney James, Peter White, Michael Paulo, Theo Saunders,
Tateng Katindig, among others. His latest CDs are Coming True by Freeham records and
Solomon by Orange Room Records.

Billy Deen and the Rebels is a British-American pop rock band.
The band has opened for many major national acts such as Sum 41, Foo Fighters and Cheap Trick – to name a few. Well-known in southern California for its driving propulsive Latin jazz/pop rhythms, this band boasts a library of 50+ original compositions, as well as an extensive cover playlist.  Influenced by bands like Malo, War, El Chicano and Santana, Abrakadabra is a high-energy, versatile Group fusing Latin, Island, Funk, Reggae, Pop and Rock, and adding its own jazzy melodies and pop harmonies to create its unique musical signature.

In the ‘80’s, Abrakadabra was the house band at Hermosa Beach’s legendary Lighthouse, consistently playing to sold-out crowds.  The Group also performed extensively at County fairs and city-sponsored festivals, as well as in the area’s popular bars and clubs on the LA jazz circuit with groups Los Lobos and Chicago.  Though geographically/musically the Group disbanded in 1986, they still occasionally hung out together to play their uniquely imprinted style of Latin infused jazz. Since 2006 when the Group reformed with four of its original members, it has been treating fans to sold out performances in local clubs, festivals, street fairs, winery concerts and at charity benefits.
